Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

The module to will provide students with the skills necessary to progress their own work under faculty supervision and present a literature review which is systematic and relevant to midwifery practice

Syllabus:

Introduction to the midwifery project, definition of its purpose, scope, requisites, review of research processes and methodologies, critical literacy skills, critiquing current evidence based literature using critical appraisal tools, analysis and synthesis of findings. Documentation and compilation of literature review, dissemination of findings

Learning Outcomes:

Appreciate the components of critical appraising tools Demonstrate the ability to critically appraise midwifery literature in a systematic manner Prepare and present at literature review Formulation of research question Discuss the relevance and implication of the review to midwifery practice Organise and present the project

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Participation in the learning experience through a variety of teaching and learning strategies: lectures, discussions, group work, clinical skills laboratory sessions and workshops, self-directed learning, recommended reading, reflective practice, peer presentations, small group teaching, enquiry based learning case scenarios, critical thinking activities and the use of the virtual learning environment.
